Web Traffic and How to Get Your Share.

The one thing Website owners are looking for is Traffic, but there are many types of Traffic. The one thing to avoid is concentrating so much on getting traffic that you forget to analyze the quality of the traffic. There is definitely a wrong type of traffic which will only waste your bandwidth.

There are many aims of advertising. Advertising may be geared towards building a list, selling a product, or even just to brand the website. Always track your traffic to make sure that your objectives are being achieved

Quite often the difference between different ad sources is quite apparent. For instance when doing PPC advertising (Pay Per Click) Content Network Ads are very much less expensive to buy than Search Network Adverts. In Search Networks the user types in relevant keywords which then trigger your ads and this is seen as more relevant traffic than the Content Network where you ad appears on an Adsense Publisher’s website and this is seen as not as targeted.

People who click on ads on the content network tend to be browsing the Internet for information. In most cases, they expect to get this information for free. On the other hand, those searching for key terms, especially product names, are more likely to be looking to buy. Because of this, conversion rates are typically much higher on the search network. This leads to more demand which, in turn, leads to higher prices for these ads.

Pay per Click advertising is fine as a short term solution but careful control over costs must be kept and also conversions have to be tracked avidly or costs can outstrip revenue which then defeats the objective. The better but more long term solution to traffic is SEO or Search Engine Optimization which when done properly can get the website high up in the organic search results for relevant keywords. SEO means optimizing individual web pages for certain specific keywords using on page factors such as keyword density and off page factors such as inbound links. This is a more long term solution to Pay Per Click which is virtually instant. Initially a good balance need to be found between the two.

A good technique for getting high in the organic results is to go for less popular long tail key words. There is not as much demand for these and although they produce less traffic they are easier to rank for therefore build up a good list of these and you can a lot of traffic.

Article marketing is under utilized and can produce good traffic as well as a significant number of quality links back to your site. Other options include joint ventures and email marketing but remember your primary objective should always focus on Not paying for traffic that isn’t generating sales.
