jar candlesMany candle manufacturers, just like many other companies around the country, are going green with their products in order to help save Mother Earth for the next several generations.

Candle makers are switching from paraffin wax, which is a byproduct of crude oil and animal fats which release toxins into the air and dirty soot when burning, and if it’s not good for the environment, it certainly is not good for someone’s health.

There are many eco-friendly candle options available on the market that burn healthier, cleaner and are all-around better for the environment.

Soy candles burn soot-free in addition to burning 50 percent longer than paraffin candles.  The choices are organic and GMO-free which will boost your candle’s green factor.  The downside of the soy candles is that they do not carry the scents as well as the other types and the wax is very soft which means they make them in a container such as jar candles so there are no Menorah or birthday candles made from soy.

Pure beeswax, which are 100 percent pure candles, last a long time and release air-cleaning negative ions as they burn.  Beeswax candles are also allergy-free and come in a variety of natural colors.  The best part is when your candle has reached its end; an individual could use the leftovers to create lip balm, hand cream or simply add it to another candle.

Palm wax or palm oil comes from inside the coconuts so it can be extracted without harming coconut trees.  Palm wax is also fully biodegradable, but as with the soy candles, look for the GMO-free style.

Many of these types of candles also come with a smaller, more efficiently burning wick and usually two, three or four wicks per candle depending on how large the candle is. The additional wicks burn more efficiently and create less soot to pollute the air.  Many of the duel wick candles are so proficient that they burn at the same time and in the end more of the candle has burned so there is no wastefulness.
