A solar sign, with LED flashing lights, draws attention to a sign better than a regular street sign without flashing lights. Since the street signs are solar powered, meaning the lights are powered by the sun’s energy, there is no need for a generator or transformer, trenches or any other type of electricity running to the street sign. This could save a city thousands of dollars each year, in addition to saving taxpayers money on necessary items that are needed if someone runs a stop sign and causes an accident; police, fire and EMT-ambulances.
Solar signs will work on cloudy or overcast days for up to 12 hours continuously flashing their LED lights, using only the sun’s power. These solar safety signs are water resistant, so they work in the rain and all types of weather conditions. A company has even designed solar powered safety lights to be used alongside the solar powered safety signs. These solar safety lights can be used anywhere light is needed, such as a construction site at night or to go up under the hood of a car and they are just as durable and bright as the solar signs are.
Everyone from school children to highway workers would benefit from various solar powered street signs. Pedestrian crossing and school crossings sign are important when drivers and pedestrians need to share the road. Often, drivers are not paying attention or can become easily distracted by their thoughts or something within their car like the radio or CD player, children, dogs, lunch or a cell phone call. Texting while driving is the latest and most dangerous mixture of a distracted driver behind the wheel.
The combination of a distracted motorist and pedestrians on the same road could spell disaster for both parties. Flashing LED lights on a pedestrian crossing or school crossing sign will help to alert preoccupied motorist so that they are more aware of their surroundings.
Solar powered danger signs with flashing red or yellow LED lights could also help to warn distracted drivers of upcoming dangers on the road. Research study after research study has proven that distracted drivers kill people, pedestrians, other drivers or themselves and to help prevent these potentially deadly accidents, solar powered traffic signs are a good first step.
