With the dot com boom, website hosting became a necessity for all the companies regardless of size and capacity. It has also become a latest craze for the individuals who are internet savvy and love to share information with other people on the internet. Web Hosting thus fast grew as a service that provides individuals, organizations and users with online systems so that they can interact with others, promote their products, share information, images and videos. The Web Hosting is supported by the Web Hosting platforms – the operating systems. There have been lots of recent advancements in Web Hosting and the Web Hosts are continuously striving to offer their clients with the latest and the most upgraded technologies.

What are Web Hosting Platforms?

What is known as a web hosting platform can generally be describes as an operating system whose primary task is to support the act of Web Hosting. Linux and Windows are the two types of Web Hosting platforms that are seen as the most traditional.

Linux can be seen as the older and standard type of web hosting platform. Linux is seen as very reliable and is able to utilize its disk space and memory effectively. It is said that in excess of 70% of web servers use the Linux / Unix system because it is cheap and has fantastic power and can be relied upon.

The other platform is Windows – Window is what Microsoft has offered to the world as a response to web hosting and its popularity is on the increase. Part of the reason for this surge in popularity is due to the programming aspects contained within it which offers developers the chance to use ASP and ASP.NET programming environments. Another string reason for using this platform is due to the way it integrates with other .NET server technologies, including:

* SQL Server 2000

* BizTalk Server 2002

* SQL Server 2000

In days gone by, there may have only been basic functions for web host packages but there are more now and some of the most commonly found and essential ones are:

* Space available on the Disk – Each and every web hosting account contains a finite amount of disk space that can be utilized by a customer to place all their files on. The total size offered on the disk varies by firm and by each individual package. Potential clients should be aware that the disk space offered by a shared web host will be smaller than the space offered by a customized host.

* Email Accounts – The price of the package can have an impact on how many email accounts are made available. These accounts are a feature provided by many hoists and sought after by many clients and some hosts allow their clients to have full control over their mail settings. Of course, some web hosts will do all of this for their client. How each client sets u their email accounts is down to their preference but there are a number of options including POP3, auto-responders, aliases and forwarders.

FTP Access – Another common feature of all the paid hosting accounts is the FTP access. The FTP programs allow the users to upload files, edit and delete the contents on the server much more quickly than using a web-based interface.

Recent Advances in Web Hosting:

As technology surges onwards and more companies find a presence online, the needs and wants of individuals and companies are evolving rapidly. This means that Web Hosts also have to progress to be able to deliver the most modern technologies to their clients.

The level of service and technology that is bring offered by technology today, for instance the Windows Server technology and the Windows 2003 Server, is probably at the highest it has ever been. Modern technology ensures there is a tremendous level of support for website developers and they can continue in confidence knowing that Microsoft, a single vendor, is wholly committed to this continual development of technology.

These improvements have meant that Windows and Linux are closer and there are instances of inter-operability between the two. Previously, each system has distinct advantages over the other but now there is not the same distinction between the two. This means that which system is offered by a host is not as important to a client as it once was. The majority of clients today are able to base their web his decision of features and factors if the company itself as opposed to the operating system they use.

Web hosting software

The key step forward in recent years in web hosting fields has came through web hosting software, which has greatly increased the effectiveness and efficiency of the hosts. The manner in which the new software can aid the host can be seen in the following functions:

* Automation of account creation

* Management of dedicated servers

* Making many tasks able to be automated allowing administrators increased time to work on other issues.

The software helps the companies in more than one ways. By opting for and hosting the automation software, the management of the dedicated server becomes easy to control and the provisioning of resources comes down from hours to minutes.

The Windows dedicated server software are Plesk for Windows, Helm for Windows, Easy Admin Exchange Control Panel, Cold Fusion MX, Anti Virus & Security Software to name a few.

Similarly, the Linux server is supported by software packages including centos Linux, cPanel / Web Host Manager, Red Hat Enterprise, Anti Virus Software and Security Software, Fantastico De Luxe and Plesk for Linux.

> Web Hosting and VOIP – Voice over Internet Protocol technology

As the Web host industry continues to go from strength to strength, there is a growing need to develop new products and technologies to ensure customers remain satisfied. The Web Hosting industry is fiercely competitive and rival firms know they have to push technology forward to be in a position to best serve their clients and win customers. One key development in recent times in the Web hosting industry revolves around Voice over Internet Protocol technology. These advances has allowed any computer user who also has access to a broadband Internet connection to be able to communicate with other people all over the world without being charged the level of fees that is normally associated with this level of communication.

The service providers have discovered that the VoIP can add a new, and often very appropriate, dimension to their services without much difficulty. The VOIP companies are coming up in great numbers in hopes of cashing in on the rather new industry.

It can be seen that the Web host genre is coming up quickly with regards to this provision and is looking to follow on. A sizeable proportion of the key Web hosts have devised plans to launch VOIPO, a telephone services that utilizes the benefits of VOIP. This is something that a Web Host provider would seek to distribute across the world

> Launching the Virtual Rack:

One major Web Host provider has created the “virtual rack” solution and its aim to offer the much liked private rack solution to clients who can only run a limited number of servers. The ultimate goal of this product is to enable customers to have the full range of customization on their Web Hosting.

As soon as the customer is in their private rack, they can choose which servers they would like. There is also the ability for them to select security technologies or advances networks which best suit their needs. This may range from the top of the line firewalls from Cisco ASA or perhaps a load balancer from server iron. However a customer wants their configuration, they can request it from their web host as well as asking for the IP arrangement they would like to receive.

All of these modern changes and progressions will make Web Hosting far better value for money and efficient than it has ever been before. The recent advances and developments are sure to make Web Hosting more efficient and effective. With exceeding customer expectations a vital goal for every firm, the changes in technology will allow many Web Hosts to do just that.

Most small business owners have had their website for years, but rarely checkup with their web hosting company to make sure that they are getting as much value as possible. If you’re one of the many that think your website can perform on ‘auto pilot’, you need to dust off the old .com and contact your hosting company to make sure you’re getting as much value as possible out of your hosting.

Price wars have also played a part in reducing the cost of hosting. To become more competitive, web hosts now offer additional free services to attract new business. Companies like InMotion, Host Monster and Blue Host offer great additional features like control panels, plug-in functionality, free domain names, merchant accounts and free marketing dollars from companies like Google AdWords.

So how do you get your fair share of these free features? Contact your hosting company today and make sure that you understand the current web hosting package that you are using. Also, have a look at their website – do they offer a free control panel, free domain, 24/7 support and other features that are now industry standard?

If your hosting company doesn’t have a good uptime record, doesn’t offer a control panel, 24/7 support, free scripts and other goodies, it’s time to find a new host. Most small business hosting plans are available now days for less than $10 monthly, which offer unlimited disk storage, unlimited bandwidth and even an unlimited number of websites that can be hosted on your account.

If, after you have examined the fine detail on your current web hosting package, you come to find that your hosting company isn’t offering a variety of free additional features, you should find a new hosting company. But how do you move your website to a new host? Its very easy to do if you are using the ubiquitous cPanel control panel. With cPanel, you can simply backup your existing website and ‘restore’ it with your new host. After this, you just need to update your domain name settings with your registrar.

If you’ve transferred your data to a new web host, you’ll need to contact your registrar to transfer your domain name. Many web hosting companies today also offer domain name registration services. For example, GoDaddy offers domain registration, cheap hosting, add on scripts, merchant accounts and a wealth of other features. Most small companies find that their needs can be meant conveniently through one company. That way, they only need to contact one company for any problem they have with their website.

If you are taking the step into heading onto the World Wide Web for the first time, hosting a website for a business or perhaps you wish to impart your knowledge with the world, there are many things to be aware of. The World Wide Web has seen a huge surge in demand in recent years and it is impossible to contemplate running a business without having an online presence. There are so many things that a firm must have in place when they try to develop a new business and they include the infrastructure, sales and promotional and marketing activities. It is quite common for a new firm to have an extremely tight budget and this forces a firm to create and hot their own websites that provide value for money and great efficiency.

Website of a company plays a major role in creating awareness among the customers, making the presence of the company felt in the competitive market, getting traffic and creating a niche in the web world. If your business is Internet-based then your first priority becomes to host your website in the web world.

The amount of new companies coming on-line has made it attractive for many web hosting firms to provide packages that are tailored towards the needs of new companies. The business demands and requirement of those looking to impart their wisdom and create a name for themselves online are firmly in the thoughts of the web host companies. One key way for these firms to get these new firms online is to use the SEO experts to offer vital hints and hints to drive traffic to the new websites.

The process that startups should undertake for Web Hosting:

It can be a little tricky to host a website for the first time. Following some of the basic steps that are listed here will enable any new user to make the best decision about what web hosting company is best for them and their needs:

* The first task should always be to search the internet and obtain as many price quotes as possible firm companies who offer web hosting services for new firms.

* Choose the one that best meets your budget and your requirements. Undertake a full search of what they offer, what their background is and if there are any other features. Compare this to some of the other sites you have seen.

Apply online – fill up the online form and provide it with all the required information like Name, Address, Country, Credit Card details etc.

* Wait for the approval which should arrive in a matter of days.

* Wait for the official confirmation and having a hosting account set up for you and then go about hosting your very own website on the World Wide Web.

What is a Web Hosting Startup package?

There is a growing number of firms who provide startup packages with the new website owners in mind. These new owners may be businesses or they may bloggers. The new owners don’t usually have high demands or expectations but they also usually have a limited budget. These are the key factors that the web hosting companies keep in mind when they offer startup packages.

What is available in a package for startup web hosting:

Although each firm will offer their own individual package the following issues will be common amongst many providers:

* Web Management system – Any reasonable web management system should have at least 20MB to 50MB of disk storage space available, with regards to data transfer per month10GB should be offered and various FTP access should be offered. These can include full FTP Access and Anonymous FTP. This is in addition to Static IP Address and Secure Server (SSL) Transaction Encryption facilities.

Email Features – This is an important feature in any web hosting package. Startup packages have around 10 Email (POP/Web) Accounts, Email Aliases & Forwarding, PGP Email Encryption, Personal SMTP Mail Server and Email AutoResponders

* E-Commerce – If you are looking to provide a shopping facility on your site, the following features will be vital. Having Password Protected Directories and Service Side Includes (SSI) can make your life much easier. As can having access to PHP4 Server-side Scripting and SSH-Secure Shell.

* Technical Support – The vast majority of web host ompanies offer around the clock 24 hour ticket support for any troubles, in addition to guaranteeing uptime for 99.9% of the year.

Website Monitoring – It includes the Daily Data Backups, Downloadable Raw Access Logs and Wusage 7.0 Graphical Statistics

* Additional Software – Some users may find their package also contains other software such as Web Based Control Panel or an increased level of support for FrontPage Extensions..

Hardware & Network – Many of the startup packages include Dual- 1 Ghz Pentium IV Servers, Custom Red Hat Server OS, Apache Server Software, 10-T1, 5-DS3, and 1-OC3 Network Connectivity and Uninterruptible Power

Advanced Features – Many of the startup package these days come with the advanced features which includes CGI Bin, Custom MIME Types, Unix Shells: bash, csh, tsh, Perl, C, C++, Java JDK, Python & TCL Compilers, Emacs 20.4, Pine, vi, elm, Joe, Pico & Cron Tab, .htaccess, Custom Error Documents and 30-day Money Back Service Guarantee.

Important tips for the Startups:

People starting a new business and those who are planning to host their website in the world web should always be aware about the goal of the website. They must be clear about what their website wants to archive. This clarification is essential before going ahead with hosting the website on the web world. Here are some of the important tips that the startups can keep in mind before hosting their website.

* Many visitors to websites have short attention spans so the start-up website needs to be attractive and able to grab peoples attention very quickly. Thinking about what will bring people to the website will help the owner make the website more attractive to visitors.

Search engine factors and typical SEO guidelines can complement the web hosting services to make a website popular so much attention must be given to it.

How do you want your company or the products to be marketed in the web?

The website must be search engine friendly but also ensure that it is interactive and engages the user into the contents of the website.

* Think of how many other sites are starting up just now. You need to ensure your firm stands out from the rest of them.

* The promises offered by shared web hosting services may sound brilliant but be careful as they are unable to offer any strict guarantees.

* Fast connections are important to your site so make sure that the web host company is able to provide them.

* Ask if there is any back-up system in store in case your web host provider loses power.

* Contact the customer support service and ask questions of them.

Before selecting a company, find out whether or not they provide the free access to a secure server for order processing, an online Web Site Manager and an online support manual.

While starting a new website, there are various pitfalls that one needs to avoid. A well structured and search engine optimized website can bring the right traffic and growth for the company. It is recommended to seek the help from the professional Web hosts who can tactfully recognize the requirements of the startups and provide the most efficient services.

The address of your website right after www is called the domain name, as in 'Google' in www.google.com.

by Matt Hedges

The address of your website right after www is called the domain name, as in ‘Google’ in www.google.com.

How is a good domain name created?

First of all, it should be very easy for others to remember. You can have the name of your company as your domain name, but if a famous proverb or a small phrase very well suits your company, then you can have it as the domain name as well.

Also, make sure not to be too opinionated about your domain name. Ask others if they find it good, and make note of others’ reactions to your domain name.

While registering a domain name that your main company website will use, I will indicate certain things that you should avoid:

1. There is a possibility of forgetting your domain name while typing the name into the browser or e-mailing you if you use a hyphen. So, avoid hyphen to reduce future problems.

2. Keep digits away from your domain name. For example, if your website is www.86.com, then you would have to tell everyone that it’s ‘86′ and not ‘eighty six’ or ‘eighty-six’. This is troublesome.

Now, it’s my turn to point out some positive things with regard to your domain name:

1. Well, though not necessary, it is better to use ‘.com’ as a part of your domain name. You will get to see that people often forget addresses that end in ‘.net’ or ‘.org’ and on a more serious note, wrong address often becomes the destination of confidential e-mails.

2. Keep the spelling of the domain name simple.

3. Don’t exceed the length of the domain beyond 20 characters, or a couple of words. Shorter domain names are easier to remember than the longer ones.

You should attach a lot of importance to the factors mentioned above, for the domain name of your primary company. You can consider ‘.net’ sites, hyphens and numbers for the secondary sites, but refrain from using them for the primary company.

Well, as far as websites are concerned, ‘.com’ extension is the most available one. So, I would suggest that use ‘.com’ as part of your domain name. Finding good ‘.com’ domains is difficult as most have been obtained.

It is of immense importance to clarify that ‘.com’, ‘.net’, ‘.org’ actually indicated three different things. ‘.com’ stands for commercial purposes, ‘.net’ stands for network purposes and ‘.org’ stands for non-profit purposes. But, this demarcating line has become fuzzy. Now, don’t think about these and outs and choose any of the extensions available for domain names.

Using uppercase and lowercase letters

You can have anything in your domain name except special characters like &, *, #, etc. You can have hyphens as well, and also, it doesn’t make any difference whether you use uppercase letters or lowercase letters.

Using dashes in the domain name

It’s better for you to remember that you might face a situation where your desired domain name has already been purchased, whereas, the same name is available with a dash. Make yourself familiar with the problems of using dash, although, sometimes it remains as the only option for you.

1) Using a dash in your domain name can be never ideal for communication. Users are likely to end up at a wrong site unless you tell them the proper place to put the dash and they put it perfectly.

2) Dash is never easy to use and common to type. It is often left out by people. The Cost of a Domain Name

How much does a domain cost? A domain name gives you the exclusive right to use that domain, and no one else can use it. For this, you will be required to pay an annual fee which may range from $6 to $50, based on the service of the registration. But remember that you haven’t ‘bought’ the domain, but just taken it on rent.

This entirely depends on your desire whether you choose the cheapest and the unknown or questionable registrants or not. I would just like to remind you that short-run saving might cost a long-run loss. The access control panel domain is surely an aspect of importance at the time of registration. As far as domain registrars are concerned, a good many of such allow modify domain hosting, managed DNS records, and even broaden the domain for the purpose of transferring the domain to another registrar through the Web interface without referring in particular to Support. This certainly lets you have the full control. One would hardly cross sword with the fact that you don’t want to admit some mistakes made by the registrars once you have got the domain name and started working in order to develop it for the purpose of promoting your objects. This is truly tragic on your part.

So, to prosper properly on this track, make sure of the fact that your domain name is registered bearing in mind all the above-mentioned things. Is there any Problem to let someone else manage My Domain name?

Well, there is not any problem to do so but it is expected that you remain the owner or administrative contact of the account to fight shy of any probable problems in the future. For an instance, you may not be able to edit the information in your domain name setup needed to shift your site files to a new web server in the future. Being not the owner or administrator of the domain name, you can’t be able to direct browsers to your site’s new location.

There are more than 20 million registered domain names so getting one may give you a lot of satisfaction. Registering a good unregistered domain for the future may make a lot of sense as well. But keep in mind that it should be in line with your business, and you might be required to spend a lot of money for it as well.

The research on the subject which is expected of you as a marketer will make you familiar with a variety of opinions. You can also be sometimes discouraged by your choice of domain name. Nevertheless, there are two common points.

1. Choosing your domain name at the very outset of your business plan is perfect in a competitive market.

2. Register the domain name as soon as you select it.

To conclude, let me inform you that even if you haven’t resolved your business plan, purchase the domain names that have fascinated you. It is not very expensive if it is bought at an affordable registrar like GoDaddy. In the future, you can resell it and can even enrich it with creative content. But, once you don’t buy it, you may not get it in the future.

by Smash Masterson

You don’t have to be rocket scientist to see just how one domain name is worth millions and another one similar could be worth next to nothing. Let’s take for example two similar domain names like Beds.com and , which are virtually the same but Beds.com is a goldmine whereas Bedsx.com probably loses money.

Keyword domain names become profitable investments if you follow these 6 golden rules and you must read them before buying your own domain name. It doesn’t matter which route you take to buy the domain name, good investigative work will guarantee a winner when it comes to selling.

1. Keyword volume: This involves keyword research which will reveal whether the words you use in the domain name are words that users like to type in the search box. Google for example get 2400 searches every month for “Hawaii Singles”. At the end of the day it is all down to volume regardless of the keyword tool you use and although they may give different results, you will soon see which words get traffic.

2. Commonality: A common view is that domain names are valued for their uniqueness but I say that any domain name falls into one category. I like names with words that are commonly used in day to day life, you know – words that stick. Words need to be chose on a certain order and you need to value pluralization too. Let’s just explain that with these factors – market, marketing, markets. SportCars.com is not as valuable as SportsCars.com, and is a loser domain name put up against RunningShoes.com. If you run a few checks on Google you will see that ShoesRunning.com is nowhere to be seen.

3. True type-in traffic: Most people always rush into domain investing and are not able to get this type of information to guide them first. Type-in traffic is the key to success and we need long term traffic, so don’t pay any attention to search engine or link traffic as this won’t last.

4. Length: A further important consideration is the domain length. Short domain names will get better results because they are a lot easier to remember and spell and would convert into loads more traffic. Branding domains with takinf these important factors into account will increase drastically the domain name value which is great news if later sell your domain.

5. Prior use: If the domain has a past life, and was acquired through a drop service or from an expired list, you want to know about it. Forget perceived positives like search engine ranking and PR since those will likely disappear after the name is in your hands. Instead, delve into the name’s dark side. Was it ever used for spamming? Is it banned from Google’s index? Did it previously contain questionable content? Overcoming these negatives can be more work than you bargained for, even with an otherwise great name.

6. End user development potential: The one thing pretty much everyone in this business agrees on is a domain needs to be developable. In other words, you must always ask yourself this: Would I or anyone else be willing to spend money to put up a Web site on this name? If the answer is no, it will never truly be considered great.

Domain names have never really been the most sought after investments and that goes for Marketers too. Domain investing has never really been properly understood and the outlying factor that seems to turn people away is the understanding that accidental traffic will be the only visits the site gets, meaning that you can’t really expect to make much in the way of profit.

Some still believe a domain name doesn’t matter, thinking JiggyPop.org is just as good as Hotels.com, provided the site’s content is the same. Listen, at one time I thought those things too, but those assumptions are dead wrong. Let me illustrate the real value of quality domain investments with a little quiz: Which domain name is most valuable on a strict valuation basis? a) Google.com or b) CellPhones.com

Even my dog has just answered Google.com so don’t feel so bad when I tell you that it isn’t the case here and I will explain just why. I think we would all agree that Google is one of the most successful businesses there are on or off line, but how many people do you think put Google in the search box… exactly, it is not often used as a keyword. What this is really telling us is that if you own a domain name you also control the keyboard.

I have several domains like Google.com, all cute, super fun-to-say, and memorable, but with no real definition. None get more than a few visitors a month – accidental, random traffic, at best. And since “Google” doesn’t historically mean anything, there’s almost no way to monetize a name like that without millions and millions of dollars worth of branding, and years of reputation building. At best, a domain like Google.com – but with no existing name recognition – might earn a few dollars a year in click revenue and sell for a few thousand at auction.

But what if you owned CellPhones.com? How many visitors would you get then, and what might they be looking for? Welcome to the wonderful world of type-in traffic, also known as direct navigation. Based on established type-in click-through metrics for the domain industry, and my own personal experience, a domain like CellPhones.com probably gets between 3000 and 5000 type-in visitors a day or about 125,000 visitors a month. (Find out more in part 2)…coming soon.

With more and more costs involved in getting a web presence started, and those costs rising rapidly, clients are looking to saving money in more ways than ever before. There are many types of fees involved in creating a website. With web hosting space, software to create the sites, email costs, and other recurring monthly and annual costs more companies now look for ways to save money on domain names and registration services. This is a small yearly fee but it adds up when considering the other costs involved even for a small company. Large companies are often faced with the need for multiple domain names and that only serves to compound the yearly cost of operating their online site. Free domain names can be found, but it is wise to study the pros and cons of these services and what they imply.

There are a few methods of obtaining your own domain name for free and it is not difficult to learn how. There are several strategies you can use to get your business, or organization a domain name and sidestep the nagging frees charged by external companies just to register your name. You can search for domain name companies’ online or local registration or hosting companies in your surrounding neighborhood.

Here are few useful tips to get a free domain name:

* Always do plenty of research when looking into companies that offer free domain name registration. You will get the best deal for your company if you chose a web host with the provisions you require that offer free domain name registration. Large companies often get this given to them even with large hosting companies for the volume of business.

* One of the easiest way to get a free domain name from a web hosting company is to use the same organization for domain registration as well as for web hosting, email registration and even web design in required.

* Whenever possible use a local hosting company for your domain name registration and site space. This is a great way to ensure the best possible service since they operate right nearby and you have close contact and the ability to negotiate personally and bargain effectively in person.

* See if the particular web host gives domain names and yearly upkeep with a package plan. This allows you to secure your personal data and information on you or your business without the public being able to access it. People trying to take advantage of public websites happen quite a lot. If that occurs your webhost will contact you and let you know of a breech, or an attempted breech of your privacy.

* There are some free TLD domains which you can obtain for viewing a provider’s offers and signing up for what you can use thereby gaining points. The more points you earn the more likely you are of obtaining more free TLD domains.

There are quite a few services that offer domain names and offer free names and registrations. You will also find some that give the ability to re-direct your existing domain name to their service. Some will enable an organization to get top-level domains for free. Some of these providers included in the list below:

Freedomain.co.nr

This domain name provider has some unique features for its clients. They have redirection service for free to point your existing website to the name. It is more commonly known as domain forwarding. Other services included are URL masking, Path forwarding, and URL cloaking. Some special features they provide are Meta Tag, and Favicon support. The only thing they require for the service is a link back from your web site to their main site. That is a very small price to pay for free services like these.

Dot.tk:

Dot.tk is a commonly used domain name service. It is one of the better free sub domain name providers and gives its clients .tk domains. The drawback to this company is the free service expires if certain conditions are not met by the user. If you obtain one of these names your site must receive at least 25 visitors inside of a 90 day period. It is your responsibility to keep up the traffic to your site or you will lose the use of it.

Uni.cc

Another very popular provider of free domain names is uni.cc. They offer some really great incentives to use their service in the form of site builders, free domain names, redirection, TLD domains. A major drawback is that this site no longer offers web hosting services, or email hosting as well as no longer providing FTP services. This makes them very limited for the use of a domain name.

GeoCities

GeoCities is a Yahoo company that offers free sub domains with advertising on the websites, and they also offer cheap web hosting solutions where you can obtain top-level domain names for free and no ad websites. Both of the fantastic offers from Yahoo come with a great many features including multiple email capability, excellent site builders, and large space even on the free sites. They are bolstered by the public’s perception of stability because of their branding.

Google Page Creator

Google’s page creator is a wonderful new availability for a fast, free website. It is still in development but offers a great many tools for site creation and is very easy to use. There are some severe limitations to the free service and still some kinks to work out but it is effective. Remember that services like this and Yahoo’s above free sites do not give unique domain names for free, but sub-domain names. This is less impressive for business and commercial sites.

Fadlan.com

This service, like Google and yahoo’s free sites offers sub domain names for free. Your name would appear before or after these types of names such as yourname.fadlan.com. Fadlan.com also offers free redirection and forwarding. These types of sub domain names are great for non-profit organizations, or personal web pages, and fan sites.

Afraid.org

The nice thing about afraid.org is the ability to choose from several sub domain names. After sign up and registration at Afraid.org you get plenty of services including an update your domain tool which allows for redirection to your web space if you have one. They have a restriction of only 50 domain names per account.

C-o.in

C-o.in is another effective free provider of domain names. They also include free URL redirection and sub domain forwarding as a free service and they offer the services in 4 available formats for ease of use.

We can logically see that people always type in the words of what they are looking for like cell phones in this case but you can bet they will type in cellphones.com repeatedly and it’s a great way of reducing advertising costs for this domain name type.

Quality has not effect on your site’s traffic. Banners and pop ups have no negative effect on traffic. A high price range product will not deter traffic. The quality of the site content won’t even stop traffic coming. The reason is that the actual domain name is that powerful that it alone will send your site traffic. I would highly recommend that you would do the opposite though to get better conversions.

Direct Navigation occurs when somebody types in the dot com site directly into the search box and this type in traffic accounts for half of all internet traffic. Obviously most people are typing in the search engine names like Google, but even so 20% are not. Earlier on in the year I was at a seminar in Las Vegas and we dealt we the influence of user habits on traffic and I really learned just how important this new found knowledge was going to make me a whole load of money.

Get this – 1) Searches done in the address bar add up to a staggering 31% of every single search. 2) A moderate 28% of address look ups are carried out in the search bar. People just have no idea on how to use the dam internet, but that allows us Domainers to reap the benefits. Did you know why “yahoo.com heads the searched terms list? I wonder why.

So what’s CellPhones.com worth anyway? About 125,000 hot responsive visitors a month! And what are they worth, pray tell? Well, if you park the page and get paid on click revenue, it might be worth $15,000 – $30,000 a month… just based on type-in traffic. If you were offsetting the cost of advertising for an affiliate promotion, a click for a term like “cell phones” might go for buck or so, so you’d come out ahead by over six figures per month.

If you added to the power of this domain name to a high street business that sells cell phones, then you would probably be able to increase sales up to 3 million dollars per month. What power domain names can have on a business like cellphones.com which is worth a seven figure number. We can now see how important it is for domain names to be part of a perfectly structured business plan. Investment-grade keyword domains are responsible for this e-commerce powerhouse that can pay great dividends, gives you a monthly income and right up until you decide on selling your web site.
